Family Approved ~ Onion Rings Recipe

Early on in our marriage, my husband and I developed a love for cooking together.

With this passion driving us to try lots of recipes, we found a few that have become family favorites.   This recipe is worth hanging on to and so much better than anything you can purchase frozen to fry!  I can’t remember where we found this recipe and I didn’t know anything about Fat Ronnie until I googled it (which told me that Fat Ronnie’s is a burger bar located in Massachusetts).

You won’t be sorry when you give it a try:

Fat Ronnie’s Fried Onion Rings

2 cups flour (I use unbleached, white)

1 1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp black ground pepper

1/2 tsp baking powder

1 cup buttermilk (I have used regular milk or evaporated milk and it’s good that way also)

1 large sweet onion, sliced into 1/2″ wide slices

In a bowl, mix together the flour, salt, pepper and baking powder.  Set aside.  In another bowl, pour milk.

Dip onion rings first into the flour mixture, then the milk, then back into the flour mixture; coating well.

Fry rings in hot oil until golden brown.  Salt to taste.

Enjoy!
